No problem is too small or trivial if we can really do something about it.

Re: Linux glitches
As I said before, I think something is not releasing my audio device when finished. I think it's Firefox 3.014.
My audio playback is very "wishy washy" in it. I have spent time in the past trying to correct it, but never made the "quantum leap" in progress.

Re: Linux glitches
Does it happen if you boot and immediately open Avidemux without opening Firefox?
Also, one source of frequent odd problems in the past has been the Flash player component of Firefox. Any possibility of testing without that? I don't remember if it is removable and re-installable. I don't use Firefox presently.
If Firefox didn't release your audio device, wouldn't this affect other audio enabled programs as well? Do you have that problem with others?

Re: Linux glitches
Thanks, but I've been through this from reading up on alleged fixes on the Internet. I'm led to believe the trouble is with Firefox, which is why I switched to another browser for audio and video.

Xine began to 'act up' at about the same time.
It would load my file and then 'hang'.
Killing pulseaudio cured this without having to reboot.

Re: Linux glitches
I shouldn't have bragged.
I installed an update to wine a couple of days ago. The system appeared to be stable but when I tried to launch two programs requiring it, they would not open a window.
Wineboot did not fix it. Rebooting the system did.

Check out the spent shell casing being flung from the weapon - good realism.
