It would also need a retractable tail, and some way of steering it while keeping the person aerodynamic.

Sigh What a twerp reinventing the wheel.
After the Bell rocket belt next came the jet belt 30 minute endurance used a Williams Jet engine

The guy ay skywalkerjets.com has posted a test video from 4-6-06. Check it out, it isn't a pretty flight or anything, but it does lift his weight. He may just pull it off someday.

Heck, it might just get him airborne soon. I have looked at that website earlier before the video was there and the first thing that came through my mind was the cost of the engines, 8 big RC-turbines with ECU and starter must be extremely expensive. Just imagine changing 16 cheramic ball bearings after a few hours of running time...El-Kablooey wrote:The guy ay skywalkerjets.com has posted a test video from 4-6-06. From a pilot safety point of view multiple engines must be better than one or two bigger engines, if one engine stopped for some reason it would still be possible to do a quick landing.
If I had the money and the balls I would get a Garrett JFS 100 and if needed rebuild the lubrication so it could be mounted vertically, then use it for powering a fan just like the German guy did. Personally I would never trust a home-built engine when it comes to get airborne...

I liked the PopSci article on that Mexican guy. Fair, not gushing, not condescending; just about right.
Hasn't made me a convert to peroxide rockets, but it is very interesting nonetheless.
To my mind, jet power will prove more practical than rocket power. Though, using the word 'practical' in this context stretches the meaning a bit too much.
I think I'll stick to the gyrocopter concept for the moment.

Huh? Jim did you not bother to read any of the posts in this thread?berquistj@peoplepc.com wrote:The only functional units I know are Nitros based....Could be wrong thats all I know...Cold to start and lots of steam...All anyone has been able to acomplish is about 2 minutes You will find all you need in this forum...

The units are either H2O2 hydrogen peroxide rocket packs or a fan turbine Jet pack

What are some powerful monopropellants (liquid) that would suit a jetpack...actually a monopropellant would make it a rocketpack huh?

Generally hydrazine.Zippiot wrote:What are some powerful monopropellants (liquid) that would suit a jetpack...actually a monopropellant would make it a rocketpack huh?
The first few hits here will tell you more than you want to know about monopropellants. Honestly, if I were you, I'd suggest concentrating on not blowing your hands off with home-made solid fuel rocket motors before you even start thinking about playing with stuff like hydrazine.

Nice :)
I dont play with bombs as hard as that is to believe, I need my hands for xbox!
A google of monopropellants doesn't reveal much, just a bunch on h2o2 and n2h4 and bomb is a good enough description for me

Oh that's sure. Generally speaking, the only really viable monopropellants are hydrazine and hydrogen peroxide, which is why that's all googling pulls up.Zippiot wrote:A google of monopropellants doesn't reveal much, just a bunch on h2o2 and n2h4 and bomb is a good enough description for me
"Bomb" is a pretty good description of what you're making with either of them.
Here's some hydrazine information: http://www.inchem.org/documents/icsc/icsc/eics0281.htm
And ditto for hydrogen peroxide (only 60% solution, you'd need 90% or better to make a feasible rocket, IIRC):
http://www.inchem.org/documents/icsc/icsc/eics0164.htm
I wouldn't particularly want to play with either, to be honest. Highly toxic and highly volatile. Extreme kudos to the Me163 pilots who flew around, with people shooting at them, in close proximity to pressurised tanks of at least hydrogen peroxide, and in later models, hydrazine / methanol mix as well.

Your right.....I was wrong.....
I'm working 60 hour weeks and it's paying it tole..
Peroxide it is. Hummmmm! Nitrated Nitros , May have something there.
Just look at it and Away You Go!!!!
Some place on the forum there is a man, I think in mexico or south America that has spent years coming up with one and last I heard still working on it ....Mostly learning how to fly the thing. He has a working product......

I bet if you had 2 big augmented effecient valveless pulsejets you could get lift off.
