Heck, it might just get him airborne soon. I have looked at that website earlier before the video was there and the first thing that came through my mind was the cost of the engines, 8 big RC-turbines with ECU and starter must be extremely expensive. Just imagine changing 16 cheramic ball bearings after a few hours of running time...

From a pilot safety point of view multiple engines must be better than one or two bigger engines, if one engine stopped for some reason it would still be possible to do a quick landing.

If I had the money and the balls I would get a Garrett JFS 100 and if needed rebuild the lubrication so it could be mounted vertically, then use it for powering a fan just like the German guy did. Personally I would never trust a home-built engine when it comes to get airborne...

Hasn't made me a convert to peroxide rockets, but it is very interesting nonetheless.

To my mind, jet power will prove more practical than rocket power. Though, using the word 'practical' in this context stretches the meaning a bit too much.

I think I'll stick to the gyrocopter concept for the moment.

The only functional units I know are Nitros based....Could be wrong thats all I know...Cold to start and lots of steam...All anyone has been able to acomplish is about 2 minutes You will find all you need in this forum...

Generally hydrazine.

The first few hits here will tell you more than you want to know about monopropellants. Honestly, if I were you, I'd suggest concentrating on not blowing your hands off with home-made solid fuel rocket motors before you even start thinking about playing with stuff like hydrazine.

Oh that's sure. Generally speaking, the only really viable monopropellants are hydrazine and hydrogen peroxide, which is why that's all googling pulls up.

"Bomb" is a pretty good description of what you're making with either of them.

And ditto for hydrogen peroxide (only 60% solution, you'd need 90% or better to make a feasible rocket, IIRC):

I wouldn't particularly want to play with either, to be honest. Highly toxic and highly volatile. Extreme kudos to the Me163 pilots who flew around, with people shooting at them, in close proximity to pressurised tanks of at least hydrogen peroxide, and in later models, hydrazine / methanol mix as well.
