Pressure Gain Combustion (Now Proven)

There is a point in adding turbo chargers to a piston engine were the piston engine ceases to be the prime mover and becomes little more that a gas producer for the turbines.

That's just insane. Why not just use a purpose built turbine engine? There were a few proposed showroom models that would have run on a turbine instead of pistons and they do superior power and speed but at the rate they guzzle gas you're either not going far or you'll need deep pockets because of how much you'll have to fill up.
Still, this looks absolutely kick-ass!

Well its a piston engine race class so a full turbine is out of class and not allowed

2800 horse power takes a bit of fuel to produce but it only has to drive 1/4 of a mile at a time
