Jumo 004 question.

Post by Hank » Wed Jan 18, 2006 7:06 pm

Hello- I've got a question regarding the actuation of the Onion (Zweibel) that was part of the exaust duct of the Jumo 004 gas turbine engine. I haven't been able to conger up an image that shows the movement and actuating mechanism of this part. Its purpose was to control exaust pressure in order to maintain a smooth operating cycle. Does anyone know the location of pertinent information?
Regards

Hank -

Look at the picture down under.

I have no text describing how it works, but the cut-a-way picture is quite clear in under standing how it works.

Hi,

The throttle and fuel control puahes and pulls Rod #11, which actuates rod #34 which moves left and right to move the " onion " in or out of the nozzle to give variable geometry.

This performs a similar function to the variable exhaust nozzles on modern jet engines.

In a simpler and cheaper way.
