Gluhareff 130R power failure issue still open ... Any Idear?

Luc has also offered to move the engine outside for testing. As long as the ambient noise level is relatively low, will this help to reduce reflections, etc in the recording?

Re: Recording
Well it would be nice to do it outside so as to cut down on the reverberation field but when it comes down to just get what you can as it will be more than we have now.Dave wrote:Graham, Viv, etc...

I am very interested about the differant throttle levels and the differance in the output sound type.
Do look at the two pictures I posted from the sound file that Luc posted, look at the differance in the two waveforms, the second one is distorted by one of the harmonics and thats what I think is mucking up the thrust.

Hi guys,
Okeyyy...I have done a small experience, were I hooked-up a little PC internal speaker to my osiloscope ... And Started to sing in it. Guess what? it works and Noooo ... My hugly voice did not blow-up the osiloscope.
Patrick is setting up the engine for a few test run and will try to see if we could see that waveform.
Message to the Jet community ... I need an FFT program for Windows 2000, cheap, free and good at the same time ...
Cya in a few guys... Let see what that speaker/Osiloscope combination has to say.
Luc.........Out

Thats not bad but the waveform from that speaker is going to be a bit blurred!

130R Power Failure
Okey guys,
I finally was able to record the temperature of all the stages at max power operations. Here are the numbers (And they are accurate)
Propane temp. = 28 °F (Before the coils)
Nozzle pressure = 175 psig.
Nozzle temp. = 1036 °F
1st Stage Temp.= 275 to 300 °F (at the middle tube)
2nd stage temp. = 302 to 312 °F (At mid tube and bottom, no change)
3rd Stage temp. = 400 to 430 °F (4 inches from the opening)
Max thrust achieve = 44 pounds.
2nd stage tube is 14.625" long
3rd stage and chamber are 14" long.
Here.... You have it all.
Cya....must go for lunch

130R Power Failure
Viv, Raymond,
Look at this. As per my calcutations using the Web site Viv linked me to :
http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/hframe.html
And following the numbers I have posted above, here are my calculations.
Stage 3 and chamber, which is 14 inches long (.355 meter), and run @ 415 °F (212.77 °C) has a frequency of 649.70 Hz.
Stage 2, which is 14.625 inch long (.371 meter), and run @ 307 ° (152.77 °C) has a frequency of 572.36 Hz.
Now, If I would want stage 2, to run at 649.70 Hz, while @ 307 ° (152.77 °C), it should be 12.875 inches long.
Interresting ... is'nt it.
Can someone validate my calculations please. Did we find something here.
Remember, the temperature taken and the lenght of the stages are accurate.
Waiting for your replies.
Cya,
Luc

Hello Luc glad you like the hyperphysics web site.
Your only error was that the engine and third stage are supposed to resonant as a quarter wave in the manuel so you need to use the closed end cylinder calculator.
And also the temperature will be wrong as your reading is for the diffuser only, the engine is at 2000f plus and thats the other part of that cylinder.
I am trying to work out what the harmonics are spposed to be, what is the length of the first stage element?
Viv

Shitt..... Your right Viv,
Big mistake ... ("Luc is hidding under his desk in shame").
Well ... That why I am no accoustic specialist. So ... I will leave the work for the pros.
By the way ... Dave is accutally 1/2 hour from me now.
Cya,
Luc

Hey not to worry mate there is a part of that is glad the old forum and my screw ups in it are off line:-)
I am trying to get a relationship for each part worked out, what is the size of the first stack element? or is itoo the plan exactly? if so I will fire up a pc and have a look at the plans.

Hi Viv,
Yes ... The first stack is as per Gluey drawings.
Dave is with me now, it is 8:00 am and we are close to starting now.
We will keep the forum page ON, to see any instructions from you guys.
Viv, log your MSN in case we need to talk live.
Well .... Out to work now,
Cya,
Luc

Heyyy guys,
We are back from outside. We did good set of recordings but the file is 28 meg long. Now that Dave is becoming a pressurejet pro, he went to cut the samples we want (i.e: Mid and Full Power).
So get ready because when I am gonna post the results, we will be gone four an hour (Lunch) and we would like to have your recommendations for the second part this after noon.
Stby...it is coming.
Cya,
Luc
