Al, I don't think you're going to have much of a problem with in-flight restart--if you design the ductwork properly for normal engine operation.

These (valveless) engines respond to the increased pressure available from ram air recovery at higher speeds, with greater thrust output AND better fuel specifics. A properly designed (pressure-recovery) intake duct will ensure good airflow into and past the engine--and there will be plenty of air moving through the engine if a restart is necessary.

I have to agree, it's a non-issue except for spark. I'm sure you could get one of those AAA units to go on only when the engine is off. Thrust could break the contact that gives it power(?)

Griffon 1/5 scale with kentfield

Post by Al Belli » Tue Jul 27, 2004 10:44 pm

Hi,

This is a layout of a Kentfield with curved intake recuperators firing into an augmentor, in a 1/5 scale airframe.

The more I delve into the acoustics of the "chinese" configuration, the more fascinated I get. I would hope that Al accepts this proposal ! It will be a wonderful thread to watch, and ultimately an easy configuration to build.

Hi Milisavljevic,

Your description of the chinese-type modified pulsejet is very interesting. I would be quite interested in seeing Your layout and dimensions.

Thanks,

Al Belli

And then a little blackbird flew by a peck peck pecking.

I thought it was you.

Griffon engine

Post by Al Belli » Sun Aug 01, 2004 2:43 pm

Hi Milisavljevic,

I scaled the (Chinese) 2X, and put four in an array as shown. The total weight with augmentor/duct is 14 pounds. This is overlayed on a 1/5 Griffon, in the attachment. The augmentor also acts as a heat shield.

Hello, M.!
I see nothing on the first file(?) The second is fine. I may just have to build one too. I'll be happy to take data also.
