Question about the valvular conduit

According to the people who have experimented with variations on Tesla's valvular conduit it does not perform as advetised. What I'm wondering is this. Is it possible that the reason is because the passageway for the reverse flow is longer than the one for the flow it's supposed to stop so that by the time it gets to it instead of slamming into it head-on it winds up sort of sideswiping a pre-existing high-pressure flow?
