New Pot on the Block

Post by Nick »

Attached Pic of Reynst pot/ Stainless Steel "Jam-Jar" combustor and water tower beautifully crafted by Steve Wallington.
This also runs on cooking oil which is injected into the tiny bore tube sticking out of he top of the pot, the "lid" unbolts so lots of variations can be tried without damagaing the integrety of the main vessal.

I'll try and post a film of it running over the weekend.

Cheers

I am curious how tall and wide it is. And what's it look like on the inside I wonder?
Again, the new pot on the block is quite nice. Is that a large bowl that was used for the top part by any chance?

quick test today.
running on meths.

fuel used less than 100ml meths
8 pints of water at approx 4C brought to 90C in 3 mins.

someone want to do the maths?

Did a video but its in quicktime and its huge so ill do one in avi hopefully sunday , then i can squeeze it down to a more net friendly size.

Cheers

I calculated that 76% of the heat has gone in the water.
Also probably wrong.
But also probably closer to the truth than Ben’s answer.

Hmm, I have a third answer, as follows:

Methanol specific energy:
(0.1 liter * (0.7918 kg/liter) * 19.9E6 joule/kg)= 1575682 joules

Caloric value of heat transferred to water:
8 US pints = 3785.4118 cc
3785.4118 cc * 86 degrees C = 325545.415 calories

Heat in joules:
325545.415 calories = 1362082.02 joules

Efficiency:
1362082.02 joules / 1575682 joules = 86.4%

BTW, that much energy transferred in 3 minutes would amount to:

(1362 082.02 joules) / (180 sec) = 7567.12233 watts = 10.15 hp

Up to 96% efficient, and featuring the unique pulse technology, the Lennox Pulse(TM) has few moving parts to break or wear out."

And then there is this thread/thought. You have to read down the page a bit to find this view.
"The Pulse furnace is noisy, difficult to service, and a death machine. PERIOD." ha ha ha So please be careful Nick and Steve. ha again

Is it british pints..... and 100 ml of methanol, depending on AFR and all that fun stuff.... Ah screw it im just going to look at the heating.

10 lbs water, heating 154 degrees F would be 1540 BTU

Now if its US pints and 8.33 lbs of water it would be around 1300 BTU.

Ok, so the figures range from 1.7% efficiency to 91.1% +/- 7%, so we can claim in all confidence that the device is somewhere between 1.7% and 98.1% efficient.

Before the experiment, we could only guess that the efficiency would be somewhere between 0 and 100%. W/ careful data and collection and the right calculations, we seem to have narrowed it down a bit ;).

One thing that concerns me is that the efficiency estimates are increasing monotonically. I propose that we stop before someone comes up w/ a figure that exceeds 100%.

Well, however effcient it is, it would make a great water heater for camp showers.
