New to the Pulse Jet forum- HK Red Head fuel consumption

Post by Monkey Paws » Thu Jan 08, 2015 11:54 pm

Hello All,
I am new to the forum and I have some questions. After waiting 40 years I finally bought a Red Head and I am in the process of building a plane. I am planning on running straight gasoline with a small tank. Can anyone tell me what the fuel consumption rate is for a HK Pulse Jet? Thanks Kenny

I have been running 80%methanol and 20% nitro in mine for control line flying and a 200ml tank lasts 25-30 seconds on petrol you would half the tank size to get the same flight time so 100ml for 25-30 sec run time.

Hope this helps

Robert, Thank you for the information. It is exactly what I needed. I was thinking of using a small tank but with this information I see a bigger tank is needed. Thank you

I have an empty 15 oz pork and bean can for a fuel tank. My engine runs about 90 seconds on gas. If you put an OS45 model airplane needle valve in the fuel line of the pulse jet you can throttle it down to any things from 25% throttle to 100% throttle. The engine starts very easy on low throttle. You can throttle the engine up to fly your model airplane any speed you like.

The very best fuel tank is a hospital IV bag. Put in the amount of fuel you want then remove all the bubbles. 1 micro small bubble will make the engine stop running. Put the fuel tank up front near the fuel intake about 1" below the fuel intake. The guys at Days of Speed & Thrunder use a battery fuel pump and a needle valve to the engine.
