Hellmond P90

Post by andrew2 » Fri Oct 15, 2004 8:45 am

Im soon going to start fabricating a P90.
I notice on the CAD drawings from the hellmond team there seems to be 3 layers of petal valves each getting smaller in diameter, yet there is no elevation for each valve. Is this correct? 3 valves?

Yes, they function like a leaf spring in car suspension systems.

Great!! as if replacing a single valve every 10mins isnt enough. How much performance increase do you get from this?

I have no idea, but some people in teh forum have been active in the Helmond project and will know better. I could be wrong, but the Helmond seems to be the most efficient pulsejet with valves ever built. If you go that far, you must expect complications.

Hi Andrew, Bruno and others,

I built the PJ90 from the CAD plans, Andrew is talking about. It was the first pulsejet I made and when I announced that on the old Forum, a lot of people said that I could expect complications to. However, after some start attempts the PJ90 (..the one I made..) turned out to be a good starter. What is important is the amount of fuel you have to inject.
You can find pictures of it at my site:

http://pj-website.tripod.com/escopette/id12.html

Here you can see one of my start attempts. The big flame is a result of to much fuel so this is what you have to find out with testing the engine.

Pieter.

Where do you guys get these plans for the pulsejet you're building? A website of download or something? Thank you very much

Grant, look around. This website is not just a forum. There's heaps of other stuff. If you can't navigate your way out of the forum to the rest of the site, here's the homepage: www.pulse-jets.com

Thank you, i am an idiot and didn't even know about that area. I have found a lot of blueprints under the pulsejet area but not this one. If you could tell of link me to it that would be awesome. Thanks again and sorry i'm stupid

No, you are not stupid. If you enter the site via the forum, it is not very obvious that there's this other stuff there, too.

I've now got most of the engine build sussed. The part im not sure about is the intake venturi, how is this made? Two tubes, formed, then welded? Wouldnt this require special tooling?
I am building the engine to power a plane so aerodynamics and weight is crutial.

andrew,

For the venturi I made/used a cone and a short piece of pipe that I hammered on a conical piece of metal to get the round venturi shape.
The material thickness of this pipe was 1.6mm and it was stainless steel 316L.
