Hello detonation "you look great"

Post by ganuganu » Thu May 16, 2013 11:19 pm

Atlast completed my Msc in aerospace propulsion course writing my final thesis gonna submit it in a month.

Hello everyone after nearly six months iam posting a new topic and finally i got some time to spend here in the forum. I would like to discuss about the integration of detonation engines into conventional turbojet or turbofan engine. The discussion is whether placing the detonation engine either outside the CC(In the bypass duct) or to replace the current combustor by detonation combustor. Which is better. Anyone interested. :)

single detonation cycle meshed in ICEM and simulated in ansys fluent. Probably tomorrow i will complete the simulation :D :D Looks like the cj velocity matches my simulation.

The formation of detonation front..
The first pic is mach num followed by temp, density and static pressure

18000 iterations over reached mach 2.33 so the wave is accelerating as expected and started to form detonation wave. Updates will be given further. :D

Pretty cool. Any plans for a prototype?

Thank you, yes iam planning to make. In order to get good results from prototype i will first make several tries with simulation then we will proceed to do the prototype. I nearly got the result in simulation 36200 iterations over and now the wave is accelerating ti C-J detonation wave velocity. Can you help me with the prototype???? :D :D if yes i will be very happy :D :D because iam not much experienced in fabrication stuff and electronics...

The point at which the detonation wave is created can be seen clearly in this pic. Exactly at 40 microseconds.... :D :D The calculated CJ velocity was about 1779m/s the simulation results shows the wave velocity as 1760m/s.

Results with higher order solution methods and higher order chemical reaction mechanism. Calculated cj velocity was about 1805m/s and the numerical results is about 1820m/s.

The pics are the pressure, temp and mach num.

Used 75 step reaction mechanism and 19 species. Done some simulations for varying ambient condition(indirectly varying the altitude). The pics are for 1atm and 0.8atm ambient condition.

Currently iam checking the effects of using con di nozzle at the exit, implementing diffuser and various other parameters. I will update here soon... :D :D

Interesting work, does the software allow different tube geometry. Maybe something like this:
