solarflux

Hey, I just got a 1lb can of solarflux. Do I just pour the methanol (the 7oz like it says) INTO the can? or, do you only make small batches of the stuff? If anyone's got any tips with this stuff, give 'em here! I want to get welding!

well, you could always drill a tiny hole. If it still, for some reason, has pressure, it should just vent safely. I personally don't think you have anything to worry about. But, give it a go, wear goggles and gloves. And, if nothing else, you can use the metal to make parts with.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b154/thecheatscalc/IMG_0025.jpg Yup, there's my "crystal" jar. (oh, and my hands aren't that pale, that's the camera flash) I'll agree, it runs very pleasantly, and is a good looking jar... now if only I could make it run longer than 10 seconds without breaking it....

I keep seeing the same topic name appear by multiple "users" perhaps it's time to pull out the ISP ban? Also, though this may seem pointless, you could make it so you can't post anywhere unless you've got, say two posts (I know you should be able to change that) Then, make a subforum where you would...

oh, I've still got mine in the original HEET bottle, keeps them fine... but, it would be less messy if I didn't have to keep pouring from that bottle! Alot more controlled too... Oh, and I broke my first jar yesterday! It was actually pretty cool to watch... but, fortunately I was able to just unscr...

Zippiot, yeah, you can do that without a problem! I tried that on mine... but the RC helicopter shaft (which is the axis...) isn't all that sturdy... so I have to be careful, though, I'll probably invert mine so it's hanging from the shaft rather than resting on it. BUT, the resistance on mine is so...

hmm... I have a guess this is one of those small "propane" type cylinders? Anyways, if you've completely de-pressurized the system, you have nothing to worry about. However, make SURE IT IS EMPTY! Once it is, go ahead and drill it (don't use it anymore once you've drilled it like NickC said) The res...

can you change the requirements for being accepted to the forums?

well, with a little help from a hammer, I flattened, and sharpened the edges of the hole. Guess what? it lit right up! heh heh... it's a pretty cool noise maker! Thanks for the help all! I'll have to play with these some more... (can't use all the methanol up yet though!) :D

I usually use cutting disk (which sometimes can be a pain in the butt to use) and usually end with an ugly product. But, all the cuts are out of the lines, so, with a little work with the bench grinder they turn out pretty good. However, those inside curves can be a pain... I personally don't like t...

actually, it's not unsteady hands, check if you've got it set on "macro" (it's represented with a flower on mine) if it is, then you've definitely got it too close. pull the camera away from the jet a bit and try again. Now, as for mine... well, let's just say it's coming along... I think progress i...
