re: May need a gun launch forum now:-)
After catching that mythbusters episode with the civil war rocket, gun-launching has stuck into the back of my mind, given how they had an ejection charge at the base of the tube. An interesting idea occured to me in the form of a recoilless gun(no rifling)-launched rocket, where a cartridge would b...

re: X-43A
Mythbusters came through and busted that one. There's no way you can make a car like that become airborne, even with the JATO bottles purported. They tried, and since the whole thing with Jamie and Adam going for absolute destruction if they bust the myth the way it's supposed to go, that's a defini...

A noisy idea
You know, seeing how pulsejets can be tuned to produce pitches if one knows what one is doing, I'm surprised a clever person hasn't rigged together a bunch of them to be the world's loudest organ. I'm sure it would be interesting if someone figured out how to feed fuel at the right points.

Mmmm...I dunno. Currently, the design is such that the flame isn't being held insde of the device...and *insert expletive*, I just realized the perfect place for the flame holder on my larger variant. :D Too bad I'm 900 odd miles from home right now, or I'd build it. =/ The small size burner is made...

People keep saying how great linux is. Well, I believe differently. In the space of sixty, I watched my friend break linux and have to fix things about five times. Maybe they work just fine if you're leaving them -alone-, letting them run whatever software you've managed to install, but try to tinke...

DIY Cruise Missile Shot Down?
You know, I'm sure this upsets everyone. I'm surprised someone else hadn't started this thread by this time, even if it's only been two days. 'sides, if they're going to block his efforts in this direction, then are they also going to try and call a halt to everything and anything that could be used...

Why not put a spring valve like those used in valved pulsejets over the injector? Then, if what I've gleaned from conversations here is correct, pressure inside the chamber during the combustion phase would prevent fuel from flowing in. Granted, one would have to design a nozzle to allow this to wor...

I was right the first time. Argh. Well, enough people make that mistake I s'pose. Anyway, I've been running some static tests of burners I've made; I'm not sure if they're producing any level of useable thrust(though I'm getting a good roar out of a larger one), so I'm going to call them burners for...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the second jet-powered fighter(made by Italy, not the US or the UK, surprisingly) used one...is it the same kind of engine, or is this type a different one? The fighter used a fan driven by an IC engine, which pushed air through the duct into which fuel was sprayed and i...

Okay, I've looked, and I do see the similarities. In my case, though, I'm not preheating the fuel, so it almost certainly wouldn't get up to supersonic speeds, unless I figured out a system to preheat the fuel to induce high in-line pressure. Hmmm. I do know that if I build the test bed the way I'm ...

Nuclear powered rockets have been an idea on the drawing board at least as long as manned spaceflight, I think. There was even a design based on a bottling machine(I think) for kicking nuclear bombs out the back of a spaceship, which would be pushed by the shockwave. Theoretically, such a design wou...
