OK, I just couldn't resist. I've attached a sketch of a concept to illustrate some of the ideas I've been talking about. I've enjoyed Larry's Paint drawings so much, I thought I'd give it a try. Geez its late, I'll type more tomorrow.

Regards,
Raymond

I believe that it is possible to make a portable jet backpack, at least if it is turbine based. Attached is a spreadsheet detailing a crude weight breakdown. Naturally there are many assumptions: 1. Gas turbine based engine with thrust/weight ratio of 8:1 and 350 lbf thrust for a gross weight of 300...

Certainly a sit in VTOL would make some aspects of the design easier, such as weight and endurance. But I think it would at the same time complicate the control issue. Moller has had the Volanter concept for something like 20 year now and the limiting factor isn't the performance, it's the control. ...

While it is certainly fun to talk about this stuff, I've always felt that one of the first steps to making technical dreams a reality is to put a specification on what is required. So, for a rocket/jet pack what would be the specifications? I can't speak for everyone, but can put out some thoughts o...

I've been following these threads for awhile, but have been busy elseware so haven't posted. I think it was Mike who wrote in the previous thread that we all want to make a jet-pack. Well, I am certainly no exception to that statement. Jet-packs have been dear to my heart for decades now. My persona...

Flame Holders

Anyone care to share flame holder ideas that they have actually tested and have worked? I've been trying several and have had no success so far, so just wanted to see if anyone has had luck.

Raymond

Information Sources

I would like to get a collection going on what people feel are the best sources of information to learn about propulsion devices. To get things started, I will post a few lists. It is also nice to know the background of people when they make a recommendation. So I will summaraize: Education Backgrou...

Can anyone recommend any kind of pastelike flux that can be applied to the BACKSIDE of a stainless joint before welding to avoid the dreaded "black Crystals" or "sugar". I 've heard of the back purging approach, be seems spendy and laborious. Perhaps a better question might be, "Does anyone have a t...

Ok Mike, Many women in Cuba are running vibrators that were originally produced in America in the 40s and 50s that they keep going with parts scavenged from wrecks This begs the question, "How do you know so much about the cybernetic sexual practices of Cuban women?" Regards, Raymond P.S. How about:...

I've been wanting to get some of that cement ever since Mark posted an E-bay item for a 5 gallon bucket of it. I've priced it since, ouch! Should have bid on it back then. Mike, I picked up an 8oz (?) can or "Rutland Furnace Cement" at the local hardware store for about $1.50. I've seen it at Lowe'...

And another thing........ I don't know how old you guys are so I really don't know how aware you are of your surrounding, but you are living on the edge of Aerospace Surplus Nerdvana! You asked about materials in an earlier post. In both Orange and LA counties, there are so many aerospace parts and ...

we were going to use a skateboard because even a medium sized pulsejet would not get us fast enough or even get a go kart moving Just a little perspective. It only takes about 6 lbf of thrust to move a racing bicycle 30mph, and at that speed, is equivelant to about .5 HP . You may find that a small...

I hope you don't think I was being condescending or anything. I was just being a little light, as I havn't seen the words 'Irvine' and 'skateboard' in the same place in a long time. It took me back 25 odd years. El Toro eh? When I lived down there the guards would have shot me if I tried to use thei...

shim and ravski, Since I grew up probably not 10 miles from where you are now, I couldn't resist posting. I personally don't know much about Pulse Jets, but can give you another idea on how you can seriously injure yourself with your skateboards. Make a sail. You'll get going plenty fast to get all ...
