If you are using valves, I should think methanol ingested via a venturi would give the longest life to a reed. Imagine frosty cold air and methanol dissipating heat on the reed. For those that like to inject fuel into the combustion chamber, you are cheating yourself out of a really good way to extend reed life. And too methanol burns a few hundred degrees cooler than gasoline.

Hey Nano,
That was a spiffy video, I've always said if you are using acetylene, it's like cheating, you can be so far away from what would run on a typical fuel such as propane or gasoline and still hit the mark, because acetylene is like burning greased lightning. If any fuel were a god of forgiveness, acetylene and hydrogen would be it.

Has anything melted or shown signs of melting? Looks like the aluminum head would be susceptible.

Re: Nanosoft's Craft Jet
Actually my valve head is mild steel. I was planning to use aluminum but didn't have any on hand.
No signs of deformity yet. This suprises me considering the amount of heat that it produces. The CC now glows yellow in valveless mode.

This makes me wonder if a straight tube just squashed/flattened a bit near one end would cycle up, or for that matter, just an ultra simple long straight tube with acetylene piped in the middle or somewhere at around 1/4 of the length. Of course you could do this in the verticle in howler tube mode, but I wonder if it would work in the horizontal with the peppier fuel. Would a resonant effect come out and play without the aid of convection or chimney effect?
By the way, who is going to be the first to run a jam jar using acetylene? How might the jam jar shape be modified with the zippy fuel to run faster, certainly a weak jam jar would be modified into pieces if one is not careful. With zippy fuel perhaps the hole could be larger or the length to width all out of proportion from what the norm is.

I wonder how my armored stainless steel pint jar would do with acetylene piped in, maybe acetylene would tollerate a thicker lid, I bet it would be deafening whether backfiring or by some strange serendipidous event, scream away like a bat out of hell. Now that would be a fun jam jar effect.
The teenie tiny jam jars might be fun to try too, maybe even make an N20 or BB gun CO2 cylinder run with ease with C2H2.
With acetylene, the TLAR rule of thumb changes over to MALAR, (most anything looks about right).

Another out on a limb try might be to just cap one end of a length of pipe/tubing and feed in acetylene, to see if you could set up a popping resonance that would give way to a full resonance.
I'd try some stuff myself but yesterday I chainsawed and carried out to the front of my street several maple trees and one dogwood tree. And I only broke one window due to a miscalculation of gravity and physics. I'm really getting tired of yard work on weekends.
