Planing for next years speed weekend, (1/2 scale Argus)

Hello everybody! My name is Jim and i am one of Erik´s two team-members.
My main task in this project was to mill the parts for the valvegrid. And yesterday it was finally finished.
The only thing missing now is the actual valves but we will start working on them later this week.







We post a lot of info and pictures on our website during the build. The downside is that everything is written in Swedish.
We have added a Google Translate-link but my guess is that it won´t work perfect. Better than nothing though...

What, no multi-colored anodizing? (ha) Aluminum is a very pretty metal, and those milled cuts show it off nicely. Funny to think it was once part of the Crown Jewels before becoming commonplace. Are you going to add any rubies or sapphires to it? ha

I´m glad that you liked it. The machining took about 30 hours. Not including the time it took to make the CAD-drawing and the cnc-program.
And of course Erik spent alot of time on calculating and designing all the parts.

And, Mark. Erik and my brother have been experimenting with anodizing aluminum in Erik´s basement so the idea crossed our minds . But i think it looks better raw.

Yesterday my brother started with the valves. They are made of 0.28mm spring steel.

Ahh, sorry. Can´t get used to un-imbedded youtube clips...

Think of all those little valves opening and closing, working together like some kind of calculator. each reed sensing a particular pressure. I recall some literature on the Schmidt tube where it was said the outer reeds responded differently, opening more or less than the others. I think it was less. I wonder to what extent the variation of play, if any, this valve grid would show? Maybe if you have the time and camera, you could focus on the intake and then play it back slowly, just to see the blinking reeds as they do their work, perhaps if you can capture them in the right light.

Here's one view of a grid blinking. Would be nice to slow this down to catch the individual opening and closing just to see how in sync the reeds are or if there're slight variations in the flutter.

And tonight Erik sent me a picture of the assembled engine. It´s looking AWESOME!
We´re hoping for a testrun this weekend and that is about time. The event we are building this engine for starts next friday...
