Project Turbo-Charger

Post by Zippiot » Tue Nov 24, 2009 7:40 pm

Back in the summer I was told I need a mule vehicle to work on in auto-tech, I purchased a 1974 Dodge Charger 360.

The 360 and tranny have been rebuilt and now the engine is about to get quite a power boost, from a turbo.

Ill post pics of the progress but so far:
engine rebuild
tranny rebuild
new cam
new intake manifold
new exhaust manifold (long tube headers) and exhaust pipes
new carb (Summit brand 750cfm)

Soon to install:
fully electric fuel system with return
turbo components

The goodies it has:
4.11 rear gears
Drag racing suspension
Extended wheel studs (cant race without them)

In the end it will run about 650hp to the wheels, but I will need to swap to a lower rear ratio because it is gonna top out just past 100mph lol.

Mostly Datsun's and an old Chevy truck, one kid has a Saturn.
Its actually really slow right now, engine makes about 300hp and the car is heavy with only 3 gears.....Drives kinda like an SUV and since the suspension was setup for drag it body rolls worse than a boat

Hi Zippy

That looks like you have a nice project for the future, personally I rather like those old chargers, I assume you have your cable subscription to powerblock tv all paid up ;-)

Yeah really excited that they are finally doing a small block Chrysler on Horsepower, just wish I was able to give the body the same quality of care I can do to an engine....

An old car invokes a weird thing in my parents generation, they all grew up around them and its like taking them back to the good ole days.

Little update:
Project Charger is being renamed project pain in my ass.

Intake is off now to be machined for fittage (is that even a word....) and is getting set for a supercharger. Hood clearance was already and issue, now its just gonna get a giant scoop to hide my failures at math. It pouring rain and cold so prolly wasn't the best time to get work done on the car, oh well.

more soon, parts just came in so intake is going back on this week
