Internal combustion chamber porting

Post by Jutte » Sun Jul 26, 2009 7:10 am

Just looking through the Boeing patent for a bank of 'Pulse ejector thrust augumentor' bank -
you know the one proposed as a lifting unit.
The bit I found interesting is the proposed use of internal ports in the combustion chamber - apparently externally fed-
to create a 'boundary layer plenum' - have a look at US patent 6926231.
Any ideas of the 'why' behind this ?
Control of heat, introduction of starting air, the control and mixing of the fuel/air plug is a few of the things I thought of.
The whole patent covers just more that the Pulse jets - looks like they are also angling to have a air droppable
troop carrier deployed from a larger craft.Halo deployed gunships perhaps?
Any ideas?

Well some of what they say seems to indicate acoustic breathing control, but it seems more likely they took a page from Mesherschmidt In the thermodynamic area ( read as flame holder ) but have NO desire to sight the prior art....

You should take all of this as some what wild speculation. I am often wrong.
