As one who checks out self-help books to people all day long, I decided to read Shafer's book, "Nobody Moved Your Cheese!", and find out something about him. I hate self-help books. So anyway, I typed the "One day... ", stuff out of his book for you to read. It's not rocket science, but there are a few good tidbits if you give the youtube clip a chance, starting at about the 1 minute mark. I also checkout highbrow books too I should say, I just find the self-help books are mostly fluff.

"We'll introduce you as BIll Nye, The Science Guy, and you can dazzle the audience with some kind of funny science gag. It will be great!"
Looking back, it's ironic that the Science Guy was born from panic and not planning. It was a fluke that we needed to fill time that night. To Bill's credit, it was the broad knowledge of his passion that enabled him to combine science with comedy and turn it into gold. It was even luckier that we could find a lab coat from a nearby nurses uniform store."

The historical consensus is that he can’t have flown thousands of miles in a fog, only to have it clear suddenly just in time over Dublin. I’ve known a little bit about him for a long time, but there are some interesting details in the video. That Curtiss Robin would have been practically an antique at the time of his flight.

It might seem strange that he drew a bigger crowd in NY than Lindbergh, but remember that this was in the height of the Great Depression, and people were hungry for heroic “outlaws”. I thought the backwards headline was a riot – I don’t even know how a paper in those days could come up with something like that almost overnight. Probably NOT a basic feature of your standard Linotype machine.

I would think his life story could make a great feature film today, if it could be handled sensitively and historically. “It’s easier to obtain forgiveness than permission” reminds me of a lot of things – some of the stuff T. E. Lawrence did with his band of desert Arabs, for example. Lots of stuff I did in my early days on my "day job", too. Amazing that Corrigan never did admit that an “Irishman” might intentionally head for Dublin after filing a flight plan for California.

I was thinking it might be fun to make a glass putt-putt boat, to observe the water vaporize in a glass coil. Someone could slow down the action with a camera. Maybe it would have some appeal, seeing a glint of the process.
