Speak for yourself, buddy. I have it on good authority* that Mr Larry Cottrill of Cottrill Cyclodyne Inc has invested a large percentage of his massive capitalisation into the development of a gigantesque gecko-c02-cylinder-hamster chimaera designed to utterly destroy the offices of Toho, Inc.

By the way, Larry, that's a wonderful response.

Wow, I now have a 2nd favorite fantasy monster -- the gigantesque gecko-c02-cylinder-hamster chimaera.

This one is still my favorite, though: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dada_monster Somehow, the notion of "Ultraman", a show so seemingly devoid of anything even hinting at intellectualism, pointedly tapping into an artistic movement like Dada in order to add a 2nd layer of meaning, seemed so utterly improbable at the time. When viewed in light of modern Japanese pop art stuff (Manga, Anime etc.), it makes a little more sense -- and might be considered almost inevitable.

And what a shame that the company responsible for some of the Great "Akira Kurosawa" films should also be responsible for this?

Viv -

The hilarious part is the very last line of the article, where they are careful to say,
"Godzilla photo (top of page) courtesy Toho".

It's nice to see some professional courtesy.

Incidentally, I have heard NOTHING back so far in regard to my letters and proposed remedy.

From the Wired Blog Network link posted previously. Just tidbits/snippets/fluff.
"In September, for example, Doctor's Associates, the owner of Subway, settled a lawsuit brought by Toho over its "Five-Dollar Foot-Long" sandwich campaign. As a result, Subway removed a seconds-long snippet in its broadcast commercial showing an animated dinosaur meandering through a downtown — in what Toho argued was a depiction of Godzilla stomping through Tokyo. Terms of the settlement (.pdf) were not disclosed"

"The rock band Blue Oyster Cult paid an undisclosed licensing fee to use Godzilla's copyrighted roar in its 1977 hit song, "Godzilla."

Hey Larry

Maybe you should write to the Globe and Mail in Canada and warn them of the letters of impending doom about to arrive in their mail box following this flagrant use of some one else's copyright without permission ;-)

They dared to use "Snowzilla"
