Might be fun to try some very short revs/runs with these. Cut some of the length and add a reed or contrive some sort of valveless arrangement with add-ons in some way.

I'm not sure what intermittent duty translates out as, but as with some of my all-in-one units, if you drive them on a lower voltage, you can run them for several minutes without worry of overheating. Even my 100,000 volt unit says not to run it more than 15 minutes at max spark gap.
"If sparking and with gap 90mm (max.) unit can be used only for 15 min"

THIS IS AN EXCITER IGNITION COIL MADE BY LIVINGSTON IND. of REDDING CA. THEIR PART NUMBER IS 305002-2.
THIS APPEARS TO BE AN AUTOMOTIVE IGNITION COIL OF SOME SORT, BUT UNLIKE AN ORDINARY COIL WHICH REQUIRES "POINTS" AND A "DISTRIBUTOR" TO SEND THE DC PULSES TO THE COIL, CONVERTING THEM TO HIGH VOLTAGE...THIS COIL HAS INTERNAL CIRCUITRY. 12 VOLTS DC IS APPLIED TO THE TWO TERMINALS AND VOILA, YOU HAVE 12,000 VOLTS (GIVE OR TAKE). THIS IS A SELF CONTAINED HIGH VOLTAGE POWER SUPPLY!!!"

This is an impressive baby for a 2 inch spark in a small unit with a few simple small flashlight batteries or single smallish 6 volt lithium camera battery to run it. Pop, pop, pop!

"These modules are brand new, not surplus or rejects or excess. Brand NEW."
"Input: 2.4VDC to 6VDC (0.5amp - 3.4amp draw)
Output: 100KVDC (3pps-69pps)
Output is capacitive discharge via sealed spark gap inside module. Spark gap can be removed and SCR used for solid state switching and higher frequency output to emulate DC plasma. The modules can be used to make stun batons, stun guns, electric fences, force fields, etc... Can also be used for charging high voltage capacitors or for ion or static field generation.
Input leads are 9" long stranded copper wire.
Output leads are dense silicon wire, tin plated copper and are 6.5" long.
Dimensions: 2-5/8" Long X 1" Diameter Module size.
Module is solid molded high voltage potted epoxy casted resin.
Two sections, bottom low voltage driver and upper tesla style high voltage pulse coil. White mylar insulating tape is used to hold them together. That is where the hv spark gap is located to allow capacitive discharge of the bottom circuit into the high voltage induction coil.
We tested them up to a 2" spark gap! We went over 2 inches and it did not arc internally. These are very well insulated against internal arcing and the driver circuit has over heat protection. We ran it on 6vdc for about 15 minutes, it overheated and auto-shut off. It came back on in a few minutes.
Duty cycle was determined to be 100% at 2.4vdc input and 40% at 6vdc input. They get warm and require an aluminum sleeve heat sink with fins for cooling if you plan to use them at a high duty cycle.....to avoid over heating or damage from heat.
A high voltage experimenters perfect toy. These are one of a kind."

I forgot about this one, but I meant to bid on it. I wrote a letter of inquiry to Dong. I was going to make them into jam jars with a lid of some sort that would take the heat. Alas, I got too busy at work to bid just before it closed.

"Hi!
These tubes were originally designed as crucibles used for semiconductor materials, since melting these materials need 1000C.
I prefer the money order rather than the personal check.
Regards
Dong"

"You are bidding three new GE quartz tubes with a length of 5". Their OD and ID are about 55 and 58 mm, respectively. As shown in the picture, they were washed clean and are ready to use.
The buyer pays shipping (UPS ground). The total weight including package is around 3 lbs."

Just another odd shape for consideration. It has a fritted disk. ha
One thing I was thinking is that with my little Logan, one fueling method that worked was that I used the combustion chamber pressure to drive a fuel line full of fuel over to the side port for ingestion and it ran for a time before the little "tank" ran empty. But it was cool. So now I was thinking that if you had your jam jar with a line of fuel or a drain hole in the center of the bottom of your jar that by the jam jar pressure it could pump the fuel out, up, and over into the top of the jar and shower the internal sides of the jar with this fuel. In that way maybe, with a line that splits into 10 little tubes or so, this effect could cool the sides of the jar as it trickled down the walls, kind of like legs on a wine glass. ha
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3121/257 ... 06.jpg?v=0

So all this would be contingent on finding a low pressure zone in which to reintroduce the methanol back into the jar and the jar being able to force the fuel in the bottom out the tube and high enough for reintroduction. Maybe put a fast response one-way valve in the line(s) or lid region, blocking any positive pressure pulses. The combustion inside the jar might also help to spread the cooling radiator fluid as it drains back to the bottom of the jar, ready for another go round. If you can keep your jar cool, and the conditions the same, it should be able to run a very long time.

I wonder if they make these in jam jar motifs? ha
"Now you can have an imaginary friend that will hold your glass, and listen to your when you are depressed."
http://freshome.com/2007/05/22/someone- ... lass-wine/

Other estranged thoughts. I wonder if you could just put a tube in the center of the jar and find a negative pressure zone to lift the fuel up?
http://www.gadgetshop.com/media/gadgets ... 314021.jpg
The above design vaguely reminds me of my green fire ring thrower with the internal snorkel. Or perhaps better said by Mike ..."Ha ha, yeah, just like that only completely different."
I wonder if you extended a very narrow snorkel right up the center of the jar to the outside world if it would create some sort of fire effect above your jam jar in a repetitive manner? Certainly the tube would get hot and this might putt putt the fuel as well as the machinations of the in/out air flow surrounding the tube by the degree or zone it runs best in. It could be like having a jam jar with the added effect of a luminous volcano on top. ha

Or I wonder if a jam jar would like it if you just trickled fuel into it from the top, just enough to keep it running and cool, use a gravity feed around the perimeter of the lid, again down the sides of the wall, even allowing some to collect/insulate on the bottom if need be? The fragile jar would hopefully be sort of like the nozzle of a liquid fueled rocket with regenerative cooling.

"Here's an OLD and still working pair of Fang bellows -- goats' teats are pumped and aiar comes through the feet -- I'm told the leather will stay supple for all time. Astonishing piece of work -- better in person than the photos can depict. This stands just under 21" tall (not including the base, which IS included in the sale), measures about 11 1/2" across and is approx. 8" deep."

Wouldn't it be fun to make a flexible diaphram jam jar snorkeler like the above goat bellows? I've kind of half-heartedly toyed with rubber diaphrams/surgical gloves over the broad end of a Dynajet type shape. I just wonder if you could protect a flexible rubber diaphram if that would help draw fresh air in deep enough into a snorkeler design and pep it up even more than a gas spring effect.
To protect the rubber diaphram, you could put a narrow tube/passage for the dead air to flow back and forth or perhaps use some sort of flame guard dish for segregation. The thing is the diaphram has to have a fast response. I even thought of using a bunch of those little party favors that curl and uncurl very rapidly with pulses of air, put a bunch of them on the bottom of a small jam-jar-like snorkeler, and see if they would extend and retract along with the breathing of the snorkeling, registering the pressure pulses like an array of fingers on a hand opening and closing, fed through little tubes that connect them near the bottom of the vessel.
Recall I did mount one party favor extender on the top of a jam jar and it did go up and down, only when I shortened the long cardboard tube, which were on the brand I bought at the store. It seems the long tube allows for too much sponge effect, but with a stub of a tube, the extender went up and down in a lovely funny fashion for a short bit before getting burnt and then it melted the plastic coated paper. There's a tiny wire in them that springs them back to the closed position, but maybe there are other designs that put/mold the spring effect in the fabric without using wire.
Be the first on your mental ward floor. ha

I agree, Mike -- that one is REALLY a good one. Pyrex, too.

It says the bottom of the long tube is "crimped", but it shouldn't be too tough to cut that off, even in Pyrex. Then you could grind it smooth by hand, even with a slight "tailpipe flare" if desired. Boy, would that one ever be fun to mess with, for however long it lasted. Maybe pre-heating the whole thing somehow would give you a good long run without disaster.
