re: Starting Escopettes or motors with Long induction Pipes
Escopette style motors can be difficult to start, positive or negative pressure. Cold air just about makeing it to the combustion chamber then going back again.
For negative pressure starting one or all of the following will get sufficient charge into the combustion chamber to start these motors. The Pressures, Temps and Velocities will settle to more normal values after a few cycles.
1) If the motor has a cone on the front of the induction pipe, make it a straight pipe. Often this conical induction opening will start a shock and the motor will fail.
2) From the open end of the induction pipe to about middle of the motor set the starting gas temp to 2000K. More normal values for the rest of the motor.
3) Most motors will start with an initial gas velocity of Zero throughout the motor. If you’re still having trouble set the initial gas velocity in the bustle section of the tail to 10m/s.

Hi Graham,
I have been doing much playing with NudIs now. The times i get it going right, i have been rewarded with much information, good ideas and goals for the ever present "next build ill do this".
I am having a lot of trouble with it being very unstable. Time out error, time out error, grrrr. I know its just doing what i tell it to, but cant it work out what i mean, rather than what i say!
I havnt seen you around for a while, although i would like to have a quick conversation with you at some stage when you have some time.
I have had my engine running in NudIs once! although i did not save the exact configuration. As you would understand, it does make an ablselute mess of information to unravel, although the base operation is accurate to reality, engine frequency is spot on, and so is overall intake frequency and expected v. Individual intake cells are showing what i expected, as well as what i have deduced from recordings of it running.
Very interesting. On the model that ran, it calculated 36Lbs... thats what im after. (in reality im getting quite a bit less than this) Very good for a small engine.
Hope to talk to you again soon.
Everyone else, get into this! It is an amaizing tool to learn from, if only a little frustrating. Its much quieter than actualy running a pulse jet, and will teach you a lot in terms of what is going on in there.
Another thing, i would like to find what is the best system to run it in. Im thinking dedicated server or something, to drop the run time a little. Anyone have some ideas?

NUDiS Public Release 02
Dear NUDiS user.
I've made some much-needed modifications to the Construction Book and Analysis Book.
(As far as I can tell) the Dynamic change section now reports the correct motor length under all conditions.
The cones generator is also a little more efficient.
Generally the code runs a little more efficiently.
Please report any problems you may have.

Dear Graham,
I've been doing a significant amount of nudis runs lately, and have noticed something that I am unable to decipher and request your assistance.
When go to the C-dat viewer and try to calculate thrust, heres what I do, please correct any mistake I might be making. I've read your thrust document, and follow it, plus a few other things.
Firstly, I click "Cells" in the parameters box.
Then I select the cells from the start of the CC,
then at 254 (right at the back of the tailpipe). I then align my thrust lines in proper intervals like you mentioned, and take a reading. My bend location is usually 20 to 24 on an inline engine such as the lady anne. (In the intake.) Selecting 2 to 4 waves, lets say for example, it gives 4.5 lbs.
I then move the thrust lines closer to the end of the wave (on the right.) I do 1 interval or "wave" like you mention, and get 6.2lb thrust with the final wave selected.
I then select only the CC cells with the sliders again, set my bend location, and do the same (4 or 6 interval) and 1 interval measurments. The same trend occures again. To the right or far end, the wave calculations always seem to be much greater.
So I guess the question is,
-Where should we decern the realistic thrust figure when selecting the waves on the graph to measure?
-Also, do you do your measurements with selected cells, or with "parameters" selected?
-Would you assume the value you get from 1 wave to be more accurate then selecting 2 or 4 waves?
-Do you normally use "Parameters" when calculating thrust, select many cells before measurement, or use cells and select 1 or 2 cells in the CC?
One final thing...
I often get greatly varied linear and differential thrust.
-What is the difference?
-Are we aiming for higher linear then differential?
-Should one ALWAYS be higher then the other?
These questions I'm desperate to know, i've saved nearly 20 runs, and want to go over them very carefully with a fine tooth comb.

Well, as far as i can tell, Nudis does not/will not run on Vista.
Then again, im finding that most things dont at first, untill some major tweeking is done, and then they still may not, or are not stable.
I did get it to start into the process, untill it couldnt find a file and crashed, and it ran STUPIDLY slow... so much for the new system being powerfull, Vista... mmmm, no public comment at this moment.
OK, fist post off this machine... maybe... unless Vista says (again) that my router is unrecognised and i should replace it... again.
