KKK24

Post by Mike Spike » Thu Sep 14, 2006 7:18 pm

Hi all!

I'm kind of new to gas turbines,
I've built the FWE valvless pulsejet
from Erics free plans and now
I want build a "real" jet engien(sorry all pj fans!).
I've found a kkk24 turbo in nice
condition, is this a good turbo to start with?
I have looked around at as many
sites as posibel and I think I'm ready to start buildning.

Hi Mike -

How big is the inducer on the compressor?

Is the turbine inlet a single hole?

And a great help for You in building a GT is to join the DIYGasturbine group at Yahoo, there is Raketmotorman´s wisdom collected in a number of documents. And there is over 30k worth of messages to find info and ideas from!

I'm not sure about the inducer diameter but the turbine wheel is 55mm in diameter.
I have joined the yahoo group and it has helped quiet a bit!
I've found the turbo on "Blocket"
http://www.blocket.se/vi/9104766.htm?ca=5_s
I have some more pics of it, but right now Hotmail isn't working so I'll post them ASAP.
The seller says there is only a small play when ther's no oil in it.
I think the turbo is worth 1500SEK (200$), but off course I'll try to get it cheaper ;)

For some reason I can't post the pics, but the inlet is a singel hole.

Have You bought the turbo yet?

And dont waste your time with using Popane to fuel it. Go for Diesel/ JET A1 from the begining.

Well, I found a new turbo, it's a KKK27 that's newly renovated, for not so much more $ and I think it's a bit bigger, but I'm not sure, I read somewhere that the KKK24 has an inducer diameter of 65mm, while the KKK27 just have 50mm.

That´s a nice turbo the KKK 27, try to get the asked price down to 1500:-- SEK.

Mostly because it´s your first GT and if everything go to h*ll, then you haven´t wasted too much money.

My last turbo costed me only 20:-- SEK and lasted 2 years before I got stupid and wrecked it. It was a nice little turbine, that I used on my jetkart.

LOL 20 SEK! where did you find that!

Do you think the k27 will be able to puch a kart at something like 60-70km/h? I'm not planing to do build a jetkart right away, but some time in the future I'd like to put it on a go-cart

I got at an surplus store.

One place to get a decent and cheap turbo is a scrapyard or truck repair shop.

A 50 mm inducer should give about 11 kg thrust (it is not a real figure, as we need to have some more dimmensions on the compressor to get a better estimate).

I got as max 13 kg thrust ( that was when my fuel nozzle got loose and leaked too much fuel) on a 52 mm inducer...

My Go-kart made ~80 km/h... But I hope it will go faster with my new 'Thor' VPJ when I build it... =)
