Hi everyone. New here and new to pulse jets. Im fascinated by the simplicity of the jam jars and Im looking for the paper Francois Reynst wrote on the subject. Is it available in digital form? If not, where can I find it? Thanks.

I have a copy of "pulsating combustion" that someone scanned up a while back, but it's huge (25+ mb).

Other good reading would be his patents, but they tend to be in French and or German. Relevant patents attached. There may be UK or US equivalents to these, but I've not found them if they exist.

It's a fascinating book. I wish I'd never read it and could discover it again. I couldn't sleep for days after reading it.

If you want copies of books ALWAYS check www.abebooks.com. There will be the book you want and in 90% of the cases cheaper than ebay. I've sold obscure car books on Ebay for 3 times what abebooks had listed.
That said there are always exceptions such as a copy of Reynst on abebooks currently for silly money ($199)
So.................If anyone wants to buy my copy for $198 (I'll ship for free!) Sold to the man with his hand up!!

Wow, that is a pretty penny for Reynst's book. Imagine some young mind in soliloquy..."Would I rather have the treasury of Reynst, to have and to hold, or buy a pulsejet like the Bailey Jet? Both would be rewarding in their own way.
I got a small item in the mail today, it's going to be a swell metal jam jar, nothing more, nothing less.

Both of these books measure 8.5 X 12 inches, the Proceedings is pretty good too, the opening says, "Proceedings of the First International Symposium on Pulsating Combustion, which took place at the University of Sheffield, Sheffield, England." Perhaps they could have called it "Burning Tea-n-Crumpets".

Re the Black Book - I did my PhD at Sheffield 1963-6 and Dennis Brown was my supervisor. I built a valved pulse combustor which burned 50 lb/hr pulverised coal and it was all very exciting. I'd really like to find a resonably-priced copy of Reynst's book, I've only got photocopied bits of it.

The conference was really international, with Kentfield, Putnam and Thring making contributions. There was a guy called Huber, who had some neat commercial units (Eberspacher) which heated swimming pools, generated smoke and heated tanks (military variety). This unit had a turbine in the exhaust pipe which drove an external fan which blew warm air around the tank, meaning no drain on the electrical system.

I don't know if there were second or third symposia, there was one at Argonne Labs in 1979 with many of the usual suspects, but the research scene looks fairly quiet these days.
