re: Motor Jet Information
Our man Shane the oil well fire-fighter (who hasn't posted in a loooong while) has built at least one motorjet, possibly more. Look him up in the forum archives under the 'rescyou' nickname.
His motorjet website is http://www.rescyou.com/motojet/ .

re: Motor Jet Information
I have been playing around with the concept a bit. Bit fans and big motors arent always the best. If you can find a ducted fan electric motor and fan you will put out much much more thrust than a regular motor. Then when you basicaly strap that to the front of a ramjet you actually get some decent thrust.
The prototype we made was basically a ducted fan tube leading to an expanded combustion chamber and then a constriction / rocket nozzle, lots of fun but wickedly fuel hungry.

These things are horribly inefficient because they operate at low pressures -- most of them at probably lower mean effective pressure than the pulsejet -- and spend a lot of additional power to drive the blower. A cute toy, but a blind alley.

It worked on the fabulous Coanda Turbine Plane ...Bruno Ogorelec wrote:These things are horribly inefficient because they operate at low pressures -- most of them at probably lower mean effective pressure than the pulsejet -- and spend a lot of additional power to drive the blower. Yes. It also worked on the Caproni and on the Japanese Natter (?).Larry Cottrill wrote:It worked on the fabulous Coanda Turbine Plane ...
However, there is sometimes a huge gap between 'worked' and 'efficiently'.
