I was trying making some rcandy fuel in the weekend.
Made of 60% kno3 and 40% sugar. (lots of places say to try this proportion first)
200g kno3
133g sugar
my kno3 come from a farm supply store, and it have a red color.
If i wash the grains become white and the red color stays in the water. i tested with the red/brow painting, and latter when cooking did not know it it is caramelizing or not... so next time probably will wash the kno3 and get a white mixture.
Maybe the red color is ferric oxide.
Some one have a simple way of identify the component?
