Rocket Engine from XCOR

Post by heada » Tue Jan 16, 2007 5:51 pm

Here is a picture of a test fire of a liquid methane/LOX rocket motor.

VERY impressive. I'm not sure on any of the details (size, thrust, pressure, etc).

mach diamonds in the exhaust are COOL, but speak to improper nozzle design...

Looks like a big motor.

XCOR Rocket Motor

7,500 lbs of thrust--if you look in the main page of the site the company is actually developing the Rocket Racing League--pitting rocket powered airplanes against one another. It's a neat project and I hope that it'll get good media coverage because a rocket-plane race would definitely be impressive.

xcor has many ifferent motors, ranging from 15 pounds of thrust (teacart motor) way up to an lox/kerosine one.
Last I checked the videos on the site weren't working but if you get a change watch them light up the 400 pound thrust alcohol engines!

rocket luge

They was to have a rocket racer in Las Cruses N.M. last x-prize show....

All they had was a static .......

I hope it keeps moving on...This is so cool!!!

Google " rocket race " and you will receive much brain food!!!!!

They are talking about 1 hour races with Pit stops and 5 minute refueling.

They found a way to RELOX in five minutes.. " Unheard Of "

They say that since the tank is already cold, they can just jam it in....

5 to 10 minutes max!!!!!

I Like It........Jim

10 racers in the air at one time flying in groups of 3 or 4.. they can throttle the fuel in burst to costing to the corners and firing up on the line....

It will be a clocked race. Yet they will have to pass each other to jockey for position in a basically virtual air space
WHAT TO FRAP, IT WORKED!Image

This is interesting!

Yes, it seems that the rocket engine have a exit pressure higher than the surrounding atmosperic pressure.

But even if the Pe = Pa, shouldnt there be any diamonds in the exaust plume then? Or would they look different?
