1st Static test

Post by linker33 » Sat Nov 18, 2006 5:08 am

First static test that actually worked. I thought a night time shot might look better (and I don't have the paitence to wait till morning), but like I've heard, KNO3/Suger doesn't give a very good flame, so you can't really see very much. It did sound pretty good though. I'll try and post some daytime tests tomorrow. http://s79.photobucket.com/albums/j138/ ... ure020.flv

Congratulations! What is the size, impulse, KN etc of your engine? From what I could see it looked like it had a good start! Do you have a rocket to put it in?

It had the right sound for a sugar motor...

So share the details, like Greg ask...Interested minds want to know.

Is thier a way to figure the KN and impluse without a pressure transducer, or a test stand? Based only off the the known propellent, and the physical specs of the motor? ie. grain size/internal motor dimensions, nozel size, ect...

Edit: Ok, I'm reading thru Nakka's theory section, so hopefully I'll have some answers shortly.

This is a daytime test. As you can see it blew the nozzle. This was the result. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j138/ ... 010012.jpg

Next time I'll drill and pin the nozzle to the case.

This motor was as follows...
Inside casing dia. - 10mm
Nozzle dia. - 3mm
Inside casing length - 26mm

Grain...
Length - 26mm
Outside dia. - 9mm
Core dia. - 3mm

I'm having some trouble w/ nakka's calculations to determine KN, Impluse ect... Anyone want to get me going in the right direction here, or is more info needed?

Ok... I got tired of rolling paper tubes, and decided to go the PVC route. 1/2" PVC 600lbs. Here she is...http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j138/ ... 0012-1.jpg

I used a socket as the nozzle. I don't think I'll have any errosion problems. You can see the socket herehttp://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j138/ ... 010017.jpg.

Ok, now don't laugh at my test stand. I wanted a test stand right away, and this is what I came up with. http://s79.photobucket.com/albums/j138/ ... stTest.flv. Not super impressive, but there's room for a larger grain. Grain was 2"x1/2Dx1/8d http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j138/ ... 010025.jpg

After 3 tests, no nozzle errosion, and no significant leakage at the otherend. I just used alluminum foil to block the end prior to screwing the cap on.http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j138/ ... 010002.jpg
