Rocket Engines
Hello,
I am interrested in building a rocket engine. I was thinking of something to this extent. The oxydizer will be Nitrous Oxide, and the fuel will be asphalt.
Please warn me if this wont work, and i will blow myself up, Thanks!

Re: Rocket Engines
The nitrous oxide will be controlled and regulated by a ball valve. When the valve is squeezed harder, the more comes out. Then it will pass through a hose, and into the combustion chamber, containing asphalt (combustible and clean burning) and out a rocket nozzle.

Re: Rocket Engines
It was the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw it. (and I was thinking 09 since it's a 9mm parabelum) Thats what happens when you read too many gun books/magizines.
I was actually intending to call myself PPsh41, but a website glitch screwed that up. Oh well, we prefer to use real names here anyway, so it worked out well.

Re: Rocket Engines
I just saw a rocket bike in the March issue of Popular Mechanics, it took the fellow about 3 hours to make, 200 pounds of thrust. He used a nitrous oxide tank and asphalt in a pipe. And to light it he used a sparkler, then released the N2O into the pipe. He also worked on the latest private rocket ship that won the prize for first in space. It too used N20 and asphalt I think, but dont' quote me.
He also made a bike for his daughter that did 30 mph using a simple C02 tank.
With his N2O bicycle he said it was like the hand of God pushing him along, pulling one G he said.

Re: Rocket Engines
That is where I got the idea to build one. (page 121)
I e-mailed an asphalt company, asking about the combustible properties of their asphalt, here is my initial e-mail and their response.
I burst out laughing when i heard this
Thanks for the email. Not knowing much about what your doing, I don't think EZ Street is what your looking for. It is used for patching potholes. Thanks again

I was part of the HALO Team ( search for HALO) and worked with the guy that designed the hybrid motor for Space Ship one. Here is a picture of one of our test. N20 & asphalt producing 850 pounds of thrust.

Yes, it will work.Pistolen08 wrote:So... about my plan...
Do you think it will work?
You may use also PVC, or ABS plumbing pipe. Asphalt would work
if it is hollow core. I know that anything combustible would burn in NOS enviroment. This concept is called Hybrid Motor.
