The illusive "delete post" button

The illusive "delete post" button
Why is it not possible to always delete your own posts? Only very rarely I see a "delete post" cross show up in de the right hand corner of said post but in most of the times, you can only edit them.
Quantify the world.

Re: The illusive "delete post" button
I'm sure Mike will correct me if I'm wrong, but...
a - you can't delete a post if someone has replied to it
b - there's a time limit on deletions (and quite possibly edits) to stop people going back and simply deleting everything they have posted.
That said, there's no delete button on this post, so it's possible Mike has it turned off entirely.

Re: The illusive "delete post" button
There's a time limit for both editing and deleting. we need it because sometimes people get pissy and do something that destroys a thread.
Mike Often wrong, never unsure.

Re: The elusive "delete post" button
Hello Mike and Simon!
Metiz is not referring to the 24 hr time limit, or the "I can't delete a post once someone has posted after it" bit.
Frequently, the <delete> button is not present even within 24 hrs and when the post is the last one on a thread.
This is why he wrote "illusive"; well, he meant to say "elusive". It IS a mystery, possibly wrapped in an enigma.
And in any case the time limit is on editing posts, not whether or not one is presented with an option to delete.
Cheers,
M.
