Hackers hit phpBB bulletin board software site

Post by Viv » Mon Feb 02, 2009 3:26 am

Warning for users of the main PHPBB software website PHPBB.

"It appears hacker have hit phpBB’s website. Their homepage states, “We are sorry to report that we have been attacked through a vulnerability in an outdated PHPList installation. phpBB.com and related sites will remain unavailable while we work to recover. No vulnerabilities have been found in the phpBB software itself.”

The site PHPBB is down but read the article above for more information, this is more of a problem for people who run bulletin boards and use the PHPBB website for support, normal users should not worry too much at the moment.

If you have a user account at PHPBB then change your password as soon as the site comes back online (good practice) and if as the article warns you use the same password on multiple site then you need to get that changed as soon as possible, personally since discovering an ex business partner had a criminal intent I started using a random password generator for all sites and a an encryption program to improve security.
