New Nobody's! Lots and lots of them.

Post by Rossco » Fri Feb 09, 2007 1:10 pm

Hi Guy's, and Mike.
I know i havnt been active here for a while, although i have been snooping of and on. I see, and i think. Every so often i add a bit.

One thing that im thinking is a little concerning is the flood of new accounts. Are you keeping an eye on this? I know spamming has been happening for ever, but it is suddenly looking serious.

There is pages and pages of similar looking member accounts that all reak of bogus! How many of these can the site take?
Not complaining, and sorry, i wouldnt have an idea of where to start with them, but it just looks like it could be causing a strain to me? And what else are they doing?

Let me know if you need some extra muscle or people in searching through them (or other areas) to help the site.

No wuckin furries, mate. New accounts from spambots are one thing, letting them through is far more work.
They can stack up, but not get through. Thanks for the offer, but the only help I need now requires and administrator, which I do not really want quite yet. Ben worked out so well, as you remember.

Hi Mike

Looking at the recent spat of bogus posts for crap I looked at the members list, starting April 21st this year a lot of spammers have managed to register, the list is spammed now with web site links to crap as well.

Yeah, I may go to the first post approval thing. Thanks to everyone that sends a PM to me when there is a spam post, as it's very time consuming to look at everything for the sole purpose of deleting something unsavory.

Please DO. Not ALL of the new registrations are from bots. Bots do not exhange PMs with one another.

Hi Mike

It will probably go well until the bots learn to fill out the question ;-)

In truth its an ever changing landscape so we need to keep on top of what's happening at PHPBB to counter it.

Bad behavior was a very good PHP script but I cant find if any one is using it for PHPBB v3 I will keep looking to see if I come across any thing

so I says to myself, "self, why are the bots still getting through?" and realized that i'd made the default answer to the registration question a valid answer! doh!

It seems like a lot of bots are getting through the filter again, annoying buggers...

Yeah, deleted two this morning. I'm not checking every day, so everyone feel free to drop me an email and I'll bring the hammer down!
