Outboard reed/pulsejet reed?

Post by Mark » Mon Aug 09, 2004 3:49 am

Here's a nice little 9 petal reed valve that could probably be adapted to a pulsating combustion device. I have a thesis where similar such reeds were used to test pulsejet designs, the fellow also tromboned his pulsejets to study thrust.

Hello, Mark- Can you quote the thesis? I'm interested in building a resojet that works. This gizmo needs something that will adjust to demand and conditions, like a sliding intake tract.
We did't get much of Charley here in Bradenton, what happened to the north? Hank

It didn't really have that much of anything new in it, he just used a sleeve of a exhaust tube over another to lengthen or shorten the jet. Some of his valves were some off of outboard boat motors, the petals for the most part looked the same as pulsejet reeds. He had some "different" fuel injection rings in the throat of his jet.
I didn't get any of the bad weather. I am about as far west as you can be and still be in Florida.

Does the text say which of the ring approaches worked best, and more importantly, what he thinks "worked best" means?
Mike Often wrong, never unsure.

I don't have the thesis with me, it's over at my brother's. I don't think there was anything earthshaking in the report. He burned out his valves a few times from overheating I remember. He had some pictures of the frazzled reeds. The tromboning was kind of interesting.
Does anyone remember this internet site from the old days?
