Reinforcing high-temperature materials

Post by sockmonkey » Sun May 29, 2016 6:52 am

I've seen various ideas bandied about on here for using ceramics or other refractory materials for a pulse-jet body, but the sticking issue was always structural strength. Other materials suggested for reinforcements seem either a bit pricey or hard to come by. Could fine tungsten wire be used like rebar in a refractory material shell? I thought of tungsten because of it's notoriously high melting point and the reinforcing material needs to match the thermal expansion of the refractory material.
