the only thing that I have perforated is a tigrejet head

I've made one of those before in my early days, that is one with the holes in need of more accurate spacing.
I would use a very short drill bit. Long drill bits tend to flex and then walk or crawl. There's always a learning curve, I often find better ways to do/make things as I repeat a process. Sometimes one of the most important things is just figuring out a good way to hold the object you are working on. And two heads are better than one if you can get along, one person will know something the other doesn't and likewise. And that's a wonderful synergy.
I recall some show about love and being intimate, and this famous guitar player said one of his most intimate moments was not with some women but practicing with another guitarist. While he wasn't gay, it just illustrates how intense a project can be if you both have a common goal, a great curiousity to achieve some quest, if that makes any sense. Creativity is a powerful feeling on its own. The joy of discovery is lots of fun when it happens.
