NUDiS
Release 01 of my NUDiS based system.
Unzip into a directory C:\NUDiS
This is a bit crude, it uses the original simple combustion model, but works reasonably well.
Note the NUDiS programme is the property of Sam Mason.
To run this you'll need Xl and turn on the macros.
Have a play while I write some instructions.
Start with the construction book.
I've put one or two examples in the Qsave file. I suggest you start with the Type06. Load it via the load button in the construction book.
Run it and you'll be taken to the Analysis book (it should really be the Combustion Book!)
You can view the results of combustion in the C dat viewer.
Graham.

re: NUDiS
I'd also like to post a zipped full run of the Type06 motor but the file is over 7meg is that too big?

re: NUDiS
Be sure to have the QSAVE directory inside the directory C:\NUDiS.
Pressing Load will open the QSAVE directory and let you choose a *.QSAV file.
So,
C:\NUDiS\QSAVE
C:\NUDiS\NUDiS Construction Book R01c.xls
C:\NUDiS\NUDiS Analysis BooK R01c.xls
C:\NUDiS\NUDiS C.dat Viewer BooK 05.xls
C:\NUDiS\NUDiS.exe
The QSAVE directory contains all the files*.qsav
Let me know how you get on.

Thanks, Graham! Just so everyone knows, this is a HUGE project; countless hours of Graham's work with Sam's wonderful 1d solver at it's core. Graham iteratively makes a combustion simulation in 1d, and you get it for free!!!!
I am going to make this a sticky. It's the single biggest tool in this forum!

When doing the iterations, how do you stop? Or when does it stop?
Any way to control that?
Thanks,
Pressing Esc on the keyboard will stop everything. Try and do it at the end of a cycle.
When does it stop? - When the cycle number has reduced to Zero. At the moment the programme will attempt 10 cycles. For most motors this will take about 2600 iterations.
Most motors I've tested need about 4 to 6 cycles to stabilise then you want a few more cycles to measure the Thrust.

You know this bit of code well. Thanks for your feedback over the year.
I'll look at any comments and suggestions that people may have.

Hello Graham --
I will have to give your Release 01 a go this time! I have downloaded, but never tested, Sam's original NUDiS program;
ditto for the pre-releases. I will try to make a thorough evaluation against some of the more potent designs that have
been posted to the forum, and send you constructive feedback. Thank you for your efforts and uploading this program!
Best regards,
M.
PS: Last I knew, the upload limit was 2 MB.

Re: re: NUDiS
This release has been tested with a number of other (better) motors and responds reasonably well - at least it's stable. The few *.Qsav examples given were selected to give users an easy start. The Type 06 motor is an example of a very easy starter. I felt I shouldn't release other motors (yours, Mikes, Bills Erics) as their designers may not appreciate it.milisavljevic wrote:Hello Graham --

Known issues with this release.
For very short motors, when the length of the motor is very close to the minimum required by the Total combustion time, results can be erratic.
Work in progress.
The whole combustion routine is being rewritten (Thanks to Bill for his input here).
Combustion lag is being improved.
Combustion response to Velocity change has been improved.
The routine that controls the temperature rise due to combustion is crude but effective (highly empirical, I think is the term)- current models are being revised - suggestions from anyone.
Regards
Graham.

Hello Graham --
Thank you for the additional information. I will take care in evaluating smaller ducts. I have a nice database to work from.
Cheers,
M.
PS: Wrt. your GT questions / comments from last night, please send me a PM or an email, if you are still interested.

re: NUDiS
Dear M.
Changing the Energy Release profile in the Analysis book works for very short ducts. The default is ok for medium to long motors running on Propane. This is a workaround because the real issue is with the combustion response to particle velocity and the Combustion temperature profile. Finding a system that works well with normal motors and very short motors - well I've not had the time recently. The only motor that gave me trouble in this respect is the FWEVIII due to Larry. I was getting too much wave damping due to late heat release.
Graham.
Forget the Turbine thing it was only a passing fancy.

Hello Graham --Changing the Energy Release profile in the Analysis book works for very short ducts.
I will set up your application later today (Terje's videos distracted me for too long tonight). I will at the very least try out "three bears":
one long, one not-so-long, and one short pulsejet.
I know from Mike that you have invested a lot of time into this software; hopefully, I am not too dense to figure out how to use it.
It should be an interesting experience for me.
Consider it forgotten.Forget the Turbine thing it was only a passing fancy.
Cheers,
