Materials, mainly sheet metal

Post by Zippiot » Mon Sep 25, 2006 9:43 pm

There is a steel shop about a 30 min drive from my house, I want to get some sheet metal for making ram and pulse-jets but I donnot know what grades are suitable.

Lets pretend its a small subsonic ramjet or a small valveless pj, my welder can weld soup cans together but it is messy and occasionally burns through (MIG and Flux-core). It is rated at 130 amps.

What metal would be suitable for a small jet that I wont destroy while welding together?

Also, if stainless steel what type of welding wire and what thickness should be purchased?

Does this belong in a different area of the forum, my main focus is on ramjets for the project.
Sailing Student- How do I know if my life jacket is tight enough?
Me- Can you breathe?
Sailing Student- Yes
Me- Then its too loose!
