Making templates for cones??

Post by NickC » Mon Sep 04, 2006 9:32 pm

It's a pain to calculate all that! is there any program that will turn cone templates if you give it the cone, i guess technically frustrum of a cone, measurements then it gives you all the dimension to put on a piece of sheet metal to make that cone.

Yup
This has been listed a few times.

There is a shareware program Cone http://www.pulserate.com/ 21 days free trial

There used to be one that was not time limited which may be have been from the same company.

Also--buy yourself a set of "trammel points".

Like these:

--you can clamp them onto almost any kind of convenient straight material. I use a cheap aluminum ruler; you can also buy a chunk of cheap aluminum extrusion at most hardware stores.

I use this excel spreadsheet. Then enter everything into AutoCAD, and print it full size on a 48" plotter, using the paper as a templates. Just recently I have had access to a CNC Laser Cutter with a 300 watt laser. Now I just set some toolpath's in MasterCam, and get a perfect cut every time..... Boy am I spoiled!!!!!
