Yeah, it's still on my radar at least, haven't found any decent solenoids in the local surplus dump, though, and have had a shedload of other stuff to do.

Hi,
Not sure if this thread is still live. But for a source of solenoid try a stop / fuel shutoff solenoid off a diesel engine with a mechanical pump.
Easy to strip down. 12 or 24 VDC and can take fair amount of Amps.
