Maybe some sort of ball valve system if you are going for genetic engineering. I was trying to find some sort of woody seed pod that was radially sectioned for some reed valves to rest upon. Anyone?

If you sanded the surface flat, you could make some irregular valving with some petals over the holes.

Bamboo would work for a jam jar or you could construct a simple Logan pulsejet out of the segments. Here's an inspirational use for bamboo.

The only thing I can think that would be hard enough would be the Brazil nut......One section for one valve.....

As I have lived over seas, I have seen bamboo do some amazing things. Bamboo is stronger then steel if used right! I seen a scaffolding built with bamboo that was up to 10 stories.......I would had walked on it...

As a kid , I loaded it with BP and make rockets,,,,,,

Have ever messed with Iron wood. It is so dence it will not float in water. I have burned hack saw blade on it.......

Engines Breathing

Post by larry cottrill » Wed Jan 10, 2007 4:49 pm

I have always thought that what is needed in automotive engines to resolve the problem of different breathing at speed and at idle is to rig a camshaft with an automatic timing advance and retard, similar to what is done with ignition timing ... of course, it would be a little more difficult to implement ;-)

Any comments? Anyone seen it done somehow?

Variable cam timing

Post by Al Belli » Wed Jan 10, 2007 6:50 pm

Hi Larry,

The 1980 Alfa Romeo 2L spyder used a twin variable cam engine and was the first production car to use it.
US Pat. #4,231,330

Honda then developed the V-Teck system.
