Vapor pressure and fuel/air ratios

I was surfing the net, reading about vapor pressures of various fuels, flame speeds, fuel/air ratios, etc.
There was a simple experiment where you put a half centimeter layer of methanol in one flask and a half centimeter layer of acetone in another flask, both being a 250ml flask. Shake each and then remove the cork and light the top. Methanol goes woof and the flame travels down the flask quickly. With acetone, the flame will not advance into the flask, only the fumes above the lip will burn.
This kind of illustrates why methanol will be your friend if your fuel/air ratio is off plus or minus.
