Weird Idea to Use Steam

Post by larry cottrill » Thu Feb 10, 2005 4:27 pm

Since no one likes the idea of boiling the fuel on engine heat, why not rig a lightweight water jacket with overpressure valve so the steam pressure drives the fuel and the exhaust from the valve blows off into the exhaust stream, or into an augmentor shell? The overpressure valve would thus act as a pressure regulator for the fuel supply, while the mass of the "waste" steam would [supposedly] add mass to the augmentor stream.

Any ideas on how this would / wouldn't work? Probably wouldn't be too good for hygroscopic fuels like alcohols.
