Maybe in a vague way, this external combustion engine could be said to be snorkeling.

Re: Odds and ends
I liked this one I made, just two test tubes inside a larger tube.

Re: Odds and ends
That's beautifully simple, Mark.
Re: Odds and ends
Here's a smaller version I was fiddling with, a little fussy sustaining but just started toying with it so maybe I can get it to do better later on.

Re: Odds and ends
Got it to run for about three minutes but only started the camera after deciding it was going to sustain. Still I have to wonder why it decided to stop after 3 minutes .

Re: Odds and ends
These are 6 mm borosilicate test tubes oscillating in an 8 x 6 mm quartz tube, a vertical test. Funny by adjusting the freedom of the stroke with the silicone rubber band you can hold the engine in yor hand and it's impervious to motion and yet most times it likes a solid table surface to resonate on, to keep the rhythm. Like here on this flimsy table, the flexing dampens feedback. Notice how smooth it runs once it settles down.

Kind of an interesting shape with no seams.

Re: Odds and ends
Honestly, that is so cool, Mark!
Hope all is well, man. Looks like you are still having fun.
I am absorbed by clockwork these days, but never stop thinking pulsejetting, really.
