Don't laugh. I want to build a jet pack

Wouldn't that be awsome. Where do you think I should start? Ive been searching this site and a couple of others and I want to try. It doesn't have to produce very much thrust. Im thinking 75 lbs or so. Thats using 4 jet engines. Which Jet engine should i use?

That not a bad idear ... What about four 130R pressurejet ... And and go sonic on your first test run ... He he he. If you don't run out of fuel before.

No ... Serious, I beleive the best engine configuration for a jet pack, is the lockwood design. But the problem you will find with all the engines here ... is HEAT.

For my part, I would select a chemical rocket configuration, for a jet pack design. They run cold all the way up to the nozzles and if they are far from you, you won't get burned.

In opposite to Patrick and I, where we have lost a few hairs and jackets also. And this, from a 3 feet distance ... He he he.

Hey All-
I've also been thinking of designing a jetpack but so far have just scribbles really, I guess I've seen The Rocketeer one too many times...

To cut down on heat you might want to try some exhaust insulation wrap on the outside and, if you're really serious, take it to a custom car shop and have them coat the inside with a ceramic heat shield (it's what they use on exhaust systems for high-end cars)

Also, I would suggest just one jet, all of the extra tubing and such will add up, you know what they say, ounces add up to pounds. Just for thoughts...

Which brings me to a question, in its simplest form, which jet produces a higher thrust to weight ratio?

theres a german guy doing this ... he calls it a "monocopter" but its a huge turbine plus some tubes... hes using a carbon fiber compresor (the wings are CF not the compresor itself) if i remeber the link will post...

He was selling naming rights for $10K on Ebay for a while (no takers) He has basically been amusement for the Jet Guys at RCU. and me to...

Well, judging by these pictures, he is not the only one contemplating the use of several micro-turbojets for a jet-backpack. Who knows; maybe it could even work.

The guy ay skywalkerjets.com has posted a test video from 4-6-06. Check it out, it isn't a pretty flight or anything, but it does lift his weight. He may just pull it off someday.

Would a graphite plate protect the user from heat? If not that maybe sodium silicate with carbon fiber lke the space shuttle uses!!

A big chemical rocket to get off the ground and some tiny retractable wings to keep you moving, no 007 type jet pack but transport that straps to your back...
