I read through an old encyclopedia at home yesterday and found some interesting info, more precisely that before WW2 there were experiments conducted with an early type of jet engine similar to a ramjet. The italian airforce fitted such engines to planes and had reached 800km/h according to the book.
If this is true, how come there isn´t more written about it? I mean, most people have heard about Frank Whittle and his engines. (even though the importance of his invention turned out to be much greater of course)

Probably the one from the Camproni jet, it wasnt actually very fast and couldnt fly high. Was it Camprini...
