FD3/64-2:1!

Re: FD3/64-2:1!
D-day not to far away!
I’m amazed how long this build has felt and how fast it, according to my calendar, actually have been executed.
Yes, I am aware of that getting the motor to actually run can consume 5x the building time, if it can be persuade to run at all, that is…
Well aware of forthcoming struggle I have tried to eliminate as many small irritating problems such as a proper way to mount the motor during the test phase etc.
Still have to make a turbine wheel, build a lubrications system, and make other smaller adjustments on the motor.

Wow! You are building fast!
Looking nice. I like the "Åsa-Nisse" approach on the control panel...

That starter looks really interesting, any more info about it?

That's even better! =D I just love "Findus"Axel Borg wrote:Ha, ha, or maybe "Pettson" approach
Do you know of a good hobby shop that sells 1000W to 1500W brush-less inrunner motors?

Re: FD3/64-2:1!
That starter, is it going to be permanently mounted to the inlet cone?
Are you going to build the turbine wheel from 1mm sheet or are you going for a slightly thicker material? The way Schreckling fitted his turbine wheel to the shaft looks quite daft to me by the way, why didn´t he drill a hole in the turbine wheel and make a neck on the shaft that goes through the hole and then weld it?

Re: FD3/64-2:1!
If the startmotor works, its permanent....
Schreckling is very much against drilling holes in turbine discs because of the drastically decresed strength of the disc.
I will start experimenting using the 1mm material, if it does not work I will try thicker material.

Re: FD3/64-2:1!
Yeah I recall Shrecky saying something like if any hole were to be drilled through the disc it would fail prematurely. The little tool he describes to bend the blades is marvelous for random things around the shop!

Re: FD3/64-2:1!
So the engine will suck air through the starting fan once it is running? Lots of space between the fan blades so that should work, will look interesting since the fan will rotate from the air pulled through it.Axel Borg wrote:If the startmotor works, its permanent....

But if you lay a weld around the hole the turbine wheel should not be more stressed than if it was undrilled, or am I wrong?
Re: FD3/64-2:1!
There is plenty of room for air being sucked in all around the fan as well.
I guess the weld itself might make up for lost strength due to the hole.
Screcklings way to do it is actually not bad; it makes it easy to dissemble the motor.

FD3/64-2:1! Now; up and running!
What do you know, -it works....
Just to clarify: IT WORKS!!!!

Re: FD3/64-2:1!
Thanks!
Check this out!
The motor can self sustain and accelerate from 1800rpm!
Obviously the throttle response is slow since the pressure is extremely low.
It is hard to believe even when I se it with my own eyes, just amazing!
The motor is really quiet at these rpm:s.
