Just finished my first turbine based on a turbo and gave it a test run today, however the pump I was using for the oil was struggling due to the viscosity of the oil, my dad suggested thinning the oil with some diesel, would this be ok in a jet engine?
Also I noticed what appeared to be some burning oil dripping out of the engine at one point, is this normal or is something broken?

Re: Oil Pump
Hi.
Some use a Shurflow pump, that tolerate oil. Myself I use an Ford Escort mk 1 oilpump driven by a 24 volt lawnmover engine at 12 V.
Thinning the oil is a bad idea. Use 0W30 oil instead.
The dripping can be many tings. PM racketmotorman he is the guru wrt. Gasturbines.

Re: Oil Pump
Hi Gez
With regards your burning oil drips, what can happen is that during storage or static testing of the lube system , oil seeps into behind the heatshield at the turbine end , it works its way down and out thru the joint as the heat comes on , helped along by the static gas pressure rise of the running engine , resulting in drips of burning oil ,..............its happened to me on occassion after lots of lube system testing , but once the engine is being used normally , it shouldn't happen again unless the oil seal is in bad condition and allows oil to bypass it during cooldown motoring of the engine with the lube pump operating .
Cheers
John

Re: Oil Pump
I used a Power steering pump from a Toyota coupled with a Radiator fan motor and a small grooved belt .. Works well.. It was too strong actually i was getting around 100psi out of it so i had to make a bypass valve to lower the pressure.
