hi everyone.
I've started builiding a TT turbine to waste some time, but the (hydrodynamic) bearings of it are useless. So i removed them and will be changing em with STANDARD 6 mm ID, 13 mm OD ball bearings.
in the skf webpage it says "reference speed: 110000". but it sounds too optimistic to me. is that possible? or will they be destroyed within seconds?
thanks
Pablo

Hi Pablo
You'll probably get away with that rpm , the commonly used SKF 608 bearing , 8 X 22mm, which the catalogue quotes a 75,000 rpm refererance speed for , is used at speeds of 100,000 rpm in homemade micro turbines such as the Kamps and KJ66 .
Its important to have adequate cooling of the bearing .
Have you checked out the GTBA Site , and have you read Thomas Kamps excellent little book Model Jet Engines published by Traplett Publications in the UK .
Cheers

Re: BB life in TT turbine
ok, thanks for the answer. I will try and see how it goes.
nope, haven't read them. Will have to do it.
I still have to solve the lubrication problem, cos the bearings needed a bit of "help" to come out, so other misterious parts (and pieces) came out of from the turbo, hehe,

I just ordered that book, long overdue for doing that.
good skate shops will have the 608 in ceramic, too! or vxb.com, I think.
