First Gas Turbine Project

Post by fastnova » Sat Sep 13, 2008 10:51 pm

So here we have the start of my first gas turbine project.

Went to my local scrap yard to get the bits I needed. Decided that as they have a reputation for seriously overcharging I would take as little metal home as possible, therefore I striped the turbo right down while I was there and what you see in the pic is all I got.
When I went to pay for it the guy didn’t even know what it was, charged me £5. He asked if it had something to do with the cooling system?… What a knob, works with cars every day of his life and don’t know what the inside of a turbo looks like! Still, just smiled and nodded my head when he only asked for a fiver.

Its in quite good condition, I did manage to catch one of the compressor fins, but by no means serious. It was quite a small turbo; I put the rule in the pic to give you an idea of the size.
I can’t quite figure out how to get the other turbine off the shaft, or even if it can be removed, I hoped to make another shaft to my own spec, has anyone got any ideas how or if it can be removed?

Now all I have to do is find my vernia, design a new housing and make it.
Easy, I hope!

I don’t see problems, only opportunities.
